With the top two teams in the league meeting at the Lindfield Club, there was a question in everyone’s mind, will United Services Club E foil Hassocks A achieving a hat-trick of Harper Cup final successes? The opening frame saw Wayne Hamilton in fine form as he fluently swept to a 62-19 win over Lee Cannizarro who put up a brave fight. The USC skipper Mark Bright showed his true mettle when he cleared with a 43 break to beat the opposition leader Neil Smith 69-16. With the score level, USC’s Colin Selby had numerous opportunities to take his team into the lead, however, he did not take advantage which left the doors open for the skilful Neil Baker to win 51-12. The fourth frame was nip and tuck as Shakeel Yasin attempted to avoid an early win for the cup holders. He showed much determination but found Kevin Ward producing a solid performance who went on to win 65-32, Hassocks retaining the cup with a 3-1 victory. James Dew and Martin Batchelor were the non playing members with Derek Budde the referee assisted at the scoreboard by Simon Vincent.
