The audience at the Hurstpierpoint Social Club were treated to an exciting finish in the Wedneday Shield Snooker Final where the match was well marshalled by debutant Dave Dawson, recently qualified as a Class Three EASB referee. Paul Warboys opened for Hassocks F where he secured a 26 break, rode some luck but conceded 8 fouls against Lindfield C’s Dennis Wood, Wood ran out a 74-44 win. Dan Chambers was on top of his game when he out potted Peter Vinall 62-22 to equalise for Hassocks. It was a seesaw frame between Nigel Manns and Jim Murphy when Manns opened with two decent breaks and Murphy digging in up to a pink ball finish when he went in off to foul and seeing Manns confidently potting the re spotted pink to win 71-58 taking Hassocks into a 2-1 lead. Hassocks skipper Alan Peacock stepped up with the opportunity to lead his team to victory, however, his frame with Andy Cornell turned out to be a cliff hanger when the score levelled at 37 a piece, Cornell potted a long black to bring his team back on level terms. The final frame went to the wire keeping everyone on their toes, it was Graham Hemsley who clinched a 38-29 win when he potted the final black against Pat Baker to give Hassocks an overall 3-2 victory. David Page, MSBSL match secretary scored the match and commented on the tremendous spirit shown by both teams throughout the evening
